Nearly every Sunday morning, we begin our time together with these words: No matter who you are, or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. We root our welcome in the invitation and presence of God’s Spirit, the One who opens our hearts and questions, a Presence connecting us with each other and all creation.
No matter who you are…
As seekers and sharers in Spirit, we celebrate our diversity and that of our world. Our rainbow flag declares our Open and Affirming welcome, including those of all sexual orientations, races, and abilities. The north side of our building offers an accessibility ramp. We also have a special time for children, both upstairs in the sanctuary and downstairs during the remainder of worship time. Although we are not large in numbers, we affirm the big-and-wide welcome of the Holy One in our midst.
…or where you are on life’s journey…
As a diverse faith community, we declare ourselves “an interactive people seeking to live with faith and hope, rejoicing in discoveries and comfortable with doubt.” Further, we “commit ourselves to discovering God’s Spirit as it continues to be known in our lives, in others, and in all creation.” Our large sign in front of the church proclaims “God is Still Speaking.” Those words, along with our vision statement, reflect our desire to be persons engaged in the nexus of life and Spirit: as we worship and work, study and play, laugh and act. With clear roots in the Christian tradition, we also appreciate and learn from the wisdom and compassion of other voices and paths. We consider ourselves partners in offering respect and care for the earth and its inhabitants, with a recent project at our side yard becoming a certified Fidalgo Backyard Habitat.
