WELCOME
Greetings from Pilgrim's Moderator*
A little over two years ago, my spouse, Laurie, and I moved to the Skagit
Valley, along with our daughter and her three young children. We are all
American Baptists, but we knew that our denomination had only conservative
churches in this area, and we were all liberals. So we looked around. A friend
told us about Pilgrim. When we walked into the sanctuary one Sunday morning, we
knew almost immediately that we were "home." People were friendly, but not
overbearing. But what really got to us was that the atmosphere throughout the
worship service was inclusive, hospitable, and worshipful. It felt "right," and
it has felt right ever since that day. We were also concerned about our
grandchildren. The first thing that hit us on that score was the children's
sermon. Our pastor, Sally, actually directed her words to the children. It was
not a sermon for the adults, but definitely for the kids. The second factor was
that the church was working on fixing up a room and developing a curriculum for
the children. So in the service, when the children's sermon is over,
they go downstairs and are taught by folks from the congregation.
I don't know what you are looking for in a church. But if you are looking
for a welcoming, compassionate, inclusive and religiously liberal group of
people, Pilgrim may very well be for you.
Come on in at 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning and
give us a try.
